Sport Fishing On Tobago

Manta Lodge guests interested in sport fishing will be pleased to know that Tobagonian waters offer some of the most sought after big game fishing in the area. The same rich nutrients flowing from the waters from the Orinoco River in Venezuela that bring the reefs to life for divers are also responsible for the good size and large numbers of game fish around Tobago.Dan Jacobs of Marlin and Sport Fishing Magazine and Captain Frothy

The offshore fishing season runs from October through June when deep water species such as Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dolphin (Dorado), Wahoo and Shark can be found. Coastal Fishing is excellent throughout the year as well as good inshore fishing for Bonefish, Permit, Snook, King Mackerel, Barracuda, Snapper, Jack and Grouper.

Manta Lodge can make arrangements for anglers with any number of charter companies on Tobago, including Captain "Frothy" of Hard Play Fishing Charters.

Captain "Frothy" has been a charter captain for the past 11 years and has earned a reputation as one of the best captains in the Southern Caribbean. He is a member of the prestigious IGFA 15 - 1 Club.

Captain "Frothy" and the HARD PLAY team have been pioneers in Tag and Release fishing in the Southern Caribbean. Their boats have released over 1200 Billfish and thousands of other Offshore, Reef and Coastal Gamefish species. They are committed to protecting Tobago's  Gamefish and the incredible marine resources that we are blessed to have within our everyday reach in Tobago.

Large Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Sailfish are often caught by HARD PLAY, these are specially tagged and released back to the ocean. It has been reported to Captain "Frothy" that some of these fish have again been caught and released.

For more information please contact Hard Play directly at hardplay@tstt.net.tt.

Tobago also hosts an annual International Game Fishing Tournament based in the north-eastern village of Charlottesville, not far from Manta Lodge and Speyside. 2010 marks the 15th year for the tournament, which draws fishing enthusiasts from around the globe competing to catch the biggest Blue and White Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Dolphin, Sailfish and Wahoo.

There is a minimum requisite of four anglers per team. International Game Fish Association rules are followed. More information can be found at http://www.tgft.com.
